Another positive impact Event coordinated by RTIS Network!!

Another successful milestone for RTIS as the pivotal coordinator of the GreenMove (a CERV program funded by the EU) second international meeting took place in Malta. Once again, RTIS demonstrated its leadership in bringing together diverse stakeholders, with the event organized under its expert guidance.

With over 30 participants from 16 countries, RTIS, in collaboration with the Siggiewi Local Council, expertly managed the event titled “Methodology and Technologies for Sustainable Mobility and Energy Efficiency in Island and Rural Contexts.” Their strategic coordination ensured a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, innovation, and collaboration.

From June 10th to 13th, 2025, the picturesque island of Malta—specifically the charming community of Siggiewi—became the vibrant hub for this influential gathering. The event drew 71 participants from 21 nations, including leading researchers, NGO and CSO representatives, policymakers, rural development experts, and local stakeholders—creating a fertile environment for impactful dialogue rooted in shared sustainability goals.

At the heart of this gathering was RTIS’s exceptional coordination role, which facilitated four days of intensive workshops, presentations, and interactive discussions on “Innovative Technologies for Sustainable Mobility and Energy Efficiency in Island and Rural Contexts.” RTIS’s proactive leadership ensured seamless logistics, fostered collaboration, and encouraged the exchange of localized, scalable solutions—ranging from microgrid projects to e-mobility hubs—all while emphasizing cultural preservation and community engagement.

A key highlight was the parallel conference on “Promoting European Values and Democratic Dialogue in Island and Rural Communities,” which further showcased RTIS’s commitment to integrating democratic participation with technological innovation. Notable contributions, like Dr. Suzanne Maas’s keynote, illuminated how community-led initiatives can drive climate resilience and democratic inclusion—an area where RTIS’s facilitation has been instrumental in fostering meaningful dialogue.

This Malta event not only reinforced RTIS’s leadership in advancing sustainable rural mobility but also laid the groundwork for future initiatives. The insights and partnerships cultivated here will propel the GreenMove project into its next phase, culminating in the upcoming third meeting in Podstrana, Croatia (October 15-18, 2025).

Visit the project webpage: www.greenmove.site

RTIS’s role as the event’s coordinator was central to its success—bridging innovation, policy, and community action. The gathering exemplified how RTIS’s strategic leadership can strengthen networks, inspire cross-border collaboration, and accelerate Europe’s transition toward sustainable, resilient rural communities. The relationships and knowledge gained will serve as catalysts for ongoing efforts to empower rural areas across Europe. With the upcoming event in Croatia, RTIS continues to drive this momentum forward, shaping the future of sustainable rural development.

The 5th transnational meeting of the GREENgaged project concluded successfully, highlighted by RTIS’s outstanding presentation that once again showcased the network’s expertise and innovation. RTIS Network members played a leading role throughout the event, exemplifying their commitment and excellence.

This flagship gathering, held from April 28 to May 1, 2025, in Budapest, Hungary, brought together over 20 partners from across Europe under the theme of Energy Democracy. The event was hosted by the Municipality of Zugló and marked a significant milestone as it was the first time that the Municipality of Alimos took on the role of organizer within the framework of the European CERV Programme.

RTIS delivered a dynamic and fully organic presentation that captivated the audience. Incorporating real-life insights from the recent blackouts in Spain and Portugal, the presentation provided a fresh perspective on energy issues, making it one of the most memorable and impactful sessions of the conference. The experienced project managers from RTIS expertly conveyed complex concepts with clarity and engagement, earning high praise from attendees.

The three-day agenda was filled with inspiring activities and fruitful discussions. The “GREENgaged Citizens” initiative continues to foster citizen participation in environmental policymaking, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between local authorities and communities. This edition concentrated on Energy Democracy, a vital concept within the environmental justice movement that advocates for the democratization of energy production and management, aligning with our shared goal of a sustainable and equitable energy future.

The Budapest meeting provided a valuable platform for exchanging best practices and strengthening partnerships among participants from Italy, Portugal, Estonia, Latvia, Spain, Slovakia, Hungary, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, and France. It also marked a historic moment as Alimos Municipality stepped into the role of event organizer for the first time, demonstrating the growing leadership and engagement of our local community on a European stage.

A particularly inspiring highlight was the presentation by students from the Private School EUROPA 2000 Gimnázium in Budapest. With creativity and passion, they shared their innovative ideas and initiatives to combat climate change through a compelling debate, delivering a powerful message of responsibility and hope for the future.

This successful event not only strengthened our network but also reinforced our commitment to advancing sustainable, participatory, and innovative approaches to energy and environmental justice across Europe.

In mid-December 2024, the third meeting under the “GREEngaged Citizens: European Network for Local Climate Action” project took place in Dingli, Malta, focusing on exemplary practices for promoting sustainability within homes and communities. Hosted by the Municipality of Dingli, this gathering highlighted innovative approaches and initiatives that engage citizens in environmental stewardship while addressing social needs.https://www.cm-pinhel.pt/areas-de-acao/servicos-online/projetos-europeus/

The RTIS Network, leveraging its extensive expertise and established know-how, played a pivotal role in assisting the Municipality of Alimos in crafting an impactful presentation. The central theme revolved around the integration of three key elements: Community Engagement, Education and Awareness, and Innovative Solutions. These facets were crucial in showcasing how sustainability initiatives intertwine ecological responsibility with social engagement, ultimately benefiting both the environment and the local community.

The presentation underscored (among others) the importance of:

Community Engagement: The Municipality of Alimos actively encourages civic participation in sustainability initiatives, creating a platform for residents—including schools and local associations—to engage in activities such as olive harvesting and tree planting. This collective endeavor not only promotes environmental stewardship but also fosters a sense of ownership and solidarity among residents. By bringing the community together, Alimos cultivates relationships that empower citizens to take an active role in the sustainability of their environment.

Education and Awareness: Recognizing the importance of knowledge dissemination, the municipality seeks to educate residents on ecological practices. Programs focused on recycling, composting, and cultivating native plants aim to raise awareness and inspire behavioral shifts toward more sustainable lifestyles. Initiatives such as plantable pencils—which can be used to grow herbs and flowers once they’ve served their purpose—and workshops on composting are designed to engage the public meaningfully, facilitating a deeper understanding of environmental issues and solutions.

Innovative Solutions: To address modern sustainability challenges, the Municipality of Alimos embraces innovative technologies and practices. The introduction of a glass bottle crusher, along with integrated waste management systems, exemplifies a proactive approach to enhancing resource efficiency and minimizing environmental impacts. These innovative solutions reflect the municipality’s commitment to leveraging technology as a means of promoting sustainability and improving the quality of life for its residents.

Ecological Urban Planning: Emphasizing initiatives to preserve natural landscapes and enhance urban greenery, the municipality demonstrated its commitment to biodiversity and improving residents’ quality of life. This included successful advocacy against inappropriate building permits to ensure sustainable development.

Integrated Waste Management: Through systemic waste management strategies such as recycling and composting, the municipality illustrated the significance of resource restoration and the reduction of depletion.

With this comprehensive and participatory approach, RTIS consultants effectively organized and guided the Municipality of Alimos in delivering one of the most impactful presentations at the meeting, which featured 13 presentations from 13 different municipalities and organizations across Spain, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Malta, Slovakia, Hungary, Lithuania, Slovenia, and Latvia.

The Greek presentation distinctly stood out, showcasing the potential for meaningful environmental and social change through local sustainability programs.

On Tuesday, October 8, the ZP4All project partners convened for our 7th Online Monthly Meeting, a significant occasion that marked the culmination of the first six months of our project. This meeting served not only as a platform for reflection on our accomplishments thus far but also as an opportunity to critically assess our progress and strategize for the next steps in our mission to promote sustainable practices within vocational education.

Reflecting on Our Achievements

Over the past six months, we have made remarkable strides in various crucial areas of our initiative. The meeting began with a comprehensive review of the completed activities, where each partner shared insights into their respective contributions. Highlights included the organization of educational workshops focused on environmental awareness, detailed school audits aimed at assessing plastic usage, and innovative sustainability initiatives being implemented in educational institutions across our participating countries.

These collaborative efforts have centered around engaging students in hands-on, practical environmental education, a key element that has emerged as a noteworthy success. By fostering a culture of sustainability and zero-plastic practices within vocational training programs, we are laying the groundwork for a lasting impact.

Launching the ZP4All Educational Guide & Manual

A pivotal agenda item was the discussion surrounding the ZP4All Educational Guide & Manual, which has now been finalized. This essential deliverable represents a major milestone for the project, and partners enthusiastically exchanged ideas on the best methods for communicating and disseminating its contents to schools and educational institutions.

The consensus was clear: we must ensure that the Educational Guide & Manual transcends the traditional perception of educational materials. Instead, we aim to transform these resources into engaging, accessible, and genuinely beneficial tools for teachers and trainers. Empowering educators with practical strategies to teach sustainability and promote a zero-plastic lifestyle among students is our primary objective.

Strategic Outreach and Collaboration

In addition to finalizing our educational resources, the meeting also delved into creative strategies for outreach. Partners discussed innovative methods to maximize visibility and access to the ZP4All materials, such as organizing webinars, establishing collaborations with educational networks, and leveraging online platforms. Our goal is to ensure that the educational guide reaches a diverse range of institutions, fostering a widespread adoption of sustainability principles within vocational education across Europe.

By prioritizing both the quality of our educational content and the effectiveness of our dissemination approach, we are confident that we can make a meaningful contribution to how sustainability is integrated into our educational systems.

Looking Ahead

As we transition into the next phase of the ZP4All project, there is a palpable sense of excitement among partners. We are committed to building on the progress we have made thus far and strengthening our collaborative efforts to ensure that ZP4All fulfills its mission of empowering students and educators alike to adopt sustainable practices.

In the coming months, we are eager to roll out the ZP4All Educational Guide & Manual and actively engage schools in the adoption of zero-plastic initiatives.

Stay tuned for further updates as we continue to advance the goals of the ZP4All project. Together, we can create a future that prioritizes sustainability and environmental consciousness in vocational education, shaping a greener tomorrow for all.
