Over 24 months, RTIS Network coordinated 17 partners from 16 countries across six transnational meetings – from Corfu to Valongo.

GreenMove is not just a project. It is a movement.

From November 2024 to May 2026, the GreenMove consortium proved that (citizen-led activities) sustainable mobility is not just about technology – it is about people (citizen-led), democracy, and shared European values.

A Network Built on Trust, Tenacity, and Vision

When RTIS Network assumed the role of lead coordinator for the GreenMove project (CERV-2024-Network of Towns) , we knew we were embarking on an ambitious journey: to unite 17 partners from 16 European countries – including municipalities, NGOs, research centres, and a chamber of commerce – around a single, transformative idea. That idea was Demos‑Kratos: power from the people.

Over 24 months, we organised six transnational meetings across Europe – from the Ionian coast of North Corfu to the mountains of Valongo – and an additional series of digital workshops that ensured continuous engagement despite travel disruptions affecting nine of the 16 countries at one critical juncture.

What we achieved together is not merely a set of deliverables. It is a permanent European infrastructure for climate democracy. https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:share:7458101028194852864/?actorCompanyId=108188120

Key Achievements of the GreenMove Project on rural mobility and more…

1. Six High‑Impact Citizen-led Transnational Meetings

Each meeting was designed to advance a specific pillar of sustainable, inclusive mobility:

Meeting

Location

Theme

Key Outcome

#1

North Corfu, Greece

European Rural Identity & Transformation

First GISLG chapter; consortium foundation

#2

Siggiewi, Malta

Innovative Technologies for Mobility & Energy

Linked tech with democratic values; second GISLG chapter

#3

Podstrana, Croatia

Sustainable Tourism & Mobility

Launched European Day of Sustainable Mobility; third GISLG chapter

#4

Fano, Italy

Fundamental Rights & EU Values in Transport

Created Charter for Inclusive Mobility; fourth GISLG chapter

#5

Paphos, Cyprus

Holistic Societal Progress & Citizen Engagement

Fifth GISLG chapter; hybrid delivery despite travel bans

#6

Valongo, Portugal

Empowering Women in Mountainous Regions

Universal Design adopted as core legacy; sixth GISLG chapter; permanent network formalised

2. The Interactive Sustainable Living Guidebook (GISLG)

A six‑chapter, open‑access resource co‑created by all partners, covering:

European rural identity & transformation

Innovative technologies for sustainable mobility

Sustainable tourism & eco‑friendly transport options

Fundamental rights & EU values in transport infrastructure

Holistic societal progress through citizen engagement

Gender equality, social inclusion & mountainous regions

The GISLG is now available on the GreenMove platform as a living toolkit for any European municipality.

3. The European Day of Sustainable Mobility

The consortium issued a formal call to the European Commission to establish May 9 (Europe Day) as the annual European Day of Sustainable Mobility – a continent‑wide moment for citizens and municipalities to take concrete action for greener, more inclusive transport.

4. The GreenMove Digital Toolbox & Open‑Access Resources

An online repository of proven e‑tools, policy templates, citizen science methodologies, and replication guides – all freely available to any municipality, regardless of size or budget.

5. Universal Design as a Core Legacy

Inspired by the Municipality of Fano (presented by Davide Frulla), the consortium adopted Universal Design – “Design for All” as a binding principle for inclusive mobility planning. This approach ensures that infrastructure investments actively benefit families with strollers, children, elderly citizens, and persons with disabilities – and it will now be integrated into the GreenMove methodology for future replication. https://www.comune.fano.pu.it/

6. Permanent European Network of Citizen Science Observatories

The consortium formalised itself as a permanent association, open to new members, with a rotating secretariat and annual assemblies. This guarantees that the GreenMove network – and its commitment to citizen‑led climate action – will continue long after EU funding ends.

7. Pathway to Interreg Europe

The consortium confirmed its ambition to upscale the GreenMove methodology through an Interreg Europe proposal, focusing on policy learning, cross‑regional cooperation, and improving local governance instruments. This will allow the partnership to move from a network of towns to a policy‑improvement project with regional and national impact.

Overcoming Adversity: The Paphos Example

At the 5th meeting in Paphos (March 2026), severe weather and transport strikes made travel impossible for delegations from nine of the 16 countries. The consortium refused to postpone. Instead, we delivered a seamless hybrid meeting that ensured 100% participation – with remote partners presenting, discussing, and co‑creating as if they were in the room. This moment became a defining testament to European resilience and solidarity.

Strategic Communication & Dissemination

The project’s outcomes were amplified through:

A synchronised publishing wave by all 17 partners on their official websites.

Multilingual press releases (over 15 languages) reaching national and regional media.

A participant‑driven social media campaign generating authentic advocacy and embedding #GreenMove into the European sustainability conversation.

Articles featured in the Forum of Adriatic and Ionian Cities (FAIC) newsletter, extending policy visibility to over 40 municipalities across eight countries.

“What we built in GreenMove is not just a set of tools – it is a movement.

“Valongo’s Social Innovation Department demonstrated that citizen science and intergenerational solidarity can bridge the generation gap. Our YouTubeTrainers initiative is now a European best practice.”
– Municipality of Valongo

Looking Ahead: A Permanent Movement for Climate Democracy

The GreenMove project has officially concluded, but the GreenMove movement has only just begun. With a permanent network, a validated methodology, and a clear pathway to Interreg Europe, the consortium is ready to scale its impact – empowering more municipalities, engaging more citizens, and embedding fundamental rights into the very fabric of European mobility governance.

The group of talented young entrepreneurs, under the visionary guidance and mentorship of the experienced officials from the RTIS Network, has achieved a resounding success, catapulting to the top position with their innovative business concept, Maison De Vie. This triumphant ascent is a direct testament to the pivotal role played by the RTIS Network mentors, whose wealth of experience, expertise, and dedication have been instrumental in nurturing and refining the entrepreneurial skills of these youngsters.

The meticulous attention to detail and the professional expertise brought by the RTIS Network mentors were crucial in enhancing the clarity, feasibility, and overall impact of the Maison De Vie business proposal.

As a well-deserved recognition of their outstanding effort and innovative spirit, one representative from Maison De Vie will have the prestigious opportunity to travel to Istanbul, Turkey, to present their business idea on an international platform. Furthermore, the team will be awarded a cash prize of €2,000, generously provided by a European project dedicated to supporting young innovators. This financial reward is specifically designed to support the launch or promotion of their pioneering idea, serving as a vital catalyst that can propel their venture into the next phase of development.

The proposal submitted by Maison De Vie stood out for its clarity, coherence, and alignment with the core objectives of the You-Cycle initiative. The team’s key activities and value propositions were meticulously crafted to resonate with the initiative’s main goals, demonstrating a profound understanding of the market needs and the potential for creating meaningful impact.

RTIS Network, in collaboration with EKOGreece as part of the groundbreaking European initiative YouCycle, proudly convened its inaugural online meeting with a dynamic team of young entrepreneurs. This transformative gathering provided a comprehensive overview of the ambitious business plan for Maison de Vie, an inspiring start-up founded by three passionate individuals aged between 23 and 25. Their youthful energy and innovative spirit promise to drive impactful change in the realms of sustainable development and social responsibility.

The session also included a compelling review of the Business Model Canvas, which was initially explored during an intensive two-day workshop in Athens last July. Under the expert mentorship of RTIS staff, the mission of Maison de Vie is firmly anchored in the principles of sustainability, circular economy, and resilience, reflecting a strong commitment to social responsibility and Nature-based Solutions (NbS). These key tenets are not just theoretical ideals; they are the very foundation upon which the YouCycle project is developed.

This meeting marks a significant milestone in empowering a new generation of leaders who are passionately dedicated to crafting innovative solutions for a sustainable future. With their youthful vision and unwavering commitment, these entrepreneurs are poised to become catalysts for meaningful change, inspiring others to embrace a more responsible, resilient, and sustainable way of life.

Empowering Sustainability: Data Collection in the ZP4All Project

As we progress with the ZP4All project, we are firmly anchored in the essential endeavor of gathering data through questionnaires, a key activity that will shape the ZP4All VET Educational Guide & Manual. This systematic approach is not merely a formality; it is a critical step toward understanding the unique perspectives and experiences of those involved in the project. By collating this information, we are equipping ourselves with the knowledge necessary to enhance our strategies and drive impactful results.

Our partners throughout the project are working diligently to ensure that we receive comprehensive input from diverse stakeholders. The engagement of Formedil Bari, a leading Italian vocational education and training organization, exemplifies the commitment to this undertaking. Here, students are actively participating in the completion of their questionnaires, contributing their insights and feedback to this vital process. Facebook

These surveys are crafted to target both students and educators, recognizing that each group brings valuable and distinct viewpoints. For students, the questionnaires explore their understanding of sustainability, their experiences in environmental education, and their aspirations for a greener future. This feedback is key to tailoring future educational initiatives, ensuring they are relevant and impactful. On the other hand, teachers offer invaluable insights into the effectiveness of current curricula, teaching methodologies, and the overall engagement of learners with sustainability topics. By analyzing the feedback collected from both groups, we aim to identify gaps in knowledge, highlight successful practices, and drive improvements in vocational education related to environmental sustainability.

The importance of this data-gathering activity cannot be overstated. The information we collect will be instrumental in shaping a comprehensive Educational Guide & Manual that reflects the collective wisdom and experiences of those involved in the project. This guide will serve not only as a resource for educators but also as a blueprint for integrating sustainability into vocational training across Europe. Through this effort, we hope to inspire institutions and instructors to incorporate innovative, eco-friendly practices in their curricula, fostering a generation of students who are not only skilled but also deeply committed to sustainability.

Moreover, your participation and feedback are crucial in this collaborative endeavor. By sharing your thoughts and experiences, you help us paint a detailed picture of the current landscape of vocational education in relation to environmental awareness and practices. This inclusive approach ensures that our initiatives resonate with the realities faced by students and educators alike.

As we continue to develop this project, we also bear in mind the broader implications of our work. The ZP4All initiative is positioned at the forefront of the global movement toward sustainability, and your engagement is vital in steering the collective effort toward a more sustainable future. With the insights gained from these questionnaires, we aim to cultivate an educational environment that not only prioritizes environmental stewardship but also empowers young people to take action, advocate for change, and contribute to the global fight against plastic pollution. Facebook

In conclusion, the data-gathering phase of the ZP4All project is more than just an academic exercise; it is a stepping-stone toward fostering an educated and engaged youth that is prepared to tackle the pressing environmental challenges of our time. Together, with the comprehensive input from our partners, students, and teachers, we can create an Educational Guide & Manual that truly reflects the needs and ambitions of the next generation of leaders in sustainability. Your voice matters—join us in shaping this vital resource and paving the way for a greener future! 🌍💚

Agenda 2030: 17 Sustainable Goals by UN

Agenda 2030, adopted by the United Nations in September 2015, is a comprehensive global framework that sets out a roadmap for sustainable development. At its core are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which address key social, economic, and environmental challenges facing our world. With a deadline of 2030, the SDGs aim to guide nations towards a more sustainable and equitable future. In this article, we explore the significance of the Agenda 2030 and delve into the progress made towards achieving the SDGs.

No Poverty:

The first SDG, ‘No Poverty,’ focuses on eradicating extreme poverty and ensuring social protection for the most vulnerable. According to recent data, significant strides have been made in reducing poverty globally. However, challenges remain, particularly in regions affected by conflict, economic inequality, and climate change.

Zero Hunger:

The second SDG, ‘Zero Hunger,’ aims to end hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture. While progress has been made in reducing hunger, the COVID-19 pandemic and climate-related challenges pose renewed threats. Sustainable agricultural practices, investments in rural development, and the promotion of responsible consumption can contribute to achieving this goal.

Good Health and Well-being:

The third SDG, ‘Good Health and Well-being,’ prioritizes universal healthcare access, disease prevention, and mental health promotion. In the wake of the pandemic, health systems and global cooperation have faced unprecedented challenges. Nevertheless, efforts are underway to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, ensure equitable vaccine distribution, and improve access to essential healthcare services.

Quality Education:

The fourth SDG, ‘Quality Education,’ focuses on ensuring inclusive and equitable education for all. While progress has been made in increasing enrollment rates globally, disparities persist, particularly among marginalized communities and in conflict-affected regions. Investments in education infrastructure, teacher training, and the promotion of digital literacy are crucial for achieving this goal.

Gender Equality:

The fifth SDG, ‘Gender Equality,’ seeks to eliminate gender-based discrimination and empower women and girls. Progress has been made in promoting women’s representation in decision-making processes, reducing gender-based violence, and ensuring equal access to education. However, gender inequalities persist, demanding continued efforts to challenge societal norms and foster inclusivity.

Clean Water and Sanitation:

The sixth SDG, ‘Clean Water and Sanitation,’ aims to ensure universal access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation. While access to clean water has improved in many regions, billions still lack these essential services. Climate change impacts, pollution, and water scarcity pose challenges. Investments in water infrastructure, conservation, and sanitation facilities are essential.

Affordable and Clean Energy:

The seventh SDG, ‘Affordable and Clean Energy,’ focuses on transitioning to sustainable energy sources and increasing energy efficiency. Access to affordable and clean energy is crucial for sustainable development, poverty eradication, and combating climate change. Renewable energy technologies such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power have seen significant advancements in recent years. The costs of these technologies have decreased, making them more accessible to developing nations. Efforts are underway to expand access to clean energy in remote areas and improve energy efficiency in industries and buildings. However, challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, policy barriers, and limited financial resources still hinder progress in achieving universal access to affordable and clean energy.

    8. Decent Work and Economic Growth:

The eighth SDG, ‘Decent Work and Economic Growth,’ aims to promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth. This goal recognizes the importance of creating decent jobs that provide fair wages, social protection, and safe working conditions. It also emphasizes the need to address issues of unemployment, underemployment, and informality. Sustainable economic growth is vital for poverty reduction, improving living standards, and achieving broader social and environmental objectives. Investments in infrastructure, innovation, and entrepreneurship play a crucial role in fostering economic growth. Additionally, ensuring access to quality education and skills training enhances employability and empowers individuals to participate in the labor market.

    9. Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure:

The ninth SDG emphasizes the importance of developing resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and fostering innovation. Robust infrastructure forms the backbone of economic development and enables the efficient delivery of essential services. Investments in infrastructure development, including transport, energy, and information and communication technology (ICT), are crucial for supporting sustainable industrialization and fostering innovation. Moreover, efforts to promote sustainable industrial practices, resource efficiency, and technological advancements are necessary to reduce environmental impacts and ensure long-term sustainability.

Reduced Inequalities:

The tenth SDG, ‘Reduced Inequalities,’ aims to address social, economic, and political inequalities within and among countries. While progress has been made in reducing income inequality and promoting social protection systems, disparities persist. Discriminatory laws, practices, and policies hinder social inclusion and economic opportunities for marginalized groups. To achieve this goal, targeted interventions are required to ensure equal access to education, healthcare, and economic resources. Strengthening social protection systems, promoting inclusive policies, and addressing discrimination are essential for reducing inequalities and fostering a more equitable society.

Sustainable Cities and Communities:

The eleventh SDG focuses on building inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities and communities. As urban populations continue to grow, sustainable urbanization becomes imperative. This goal highlights the need for affordable and adequate housing, improved urban planning, access to safe and green public spaces, and enhanced resilience to natural disasters. Sustainable transport systems, efficient waste management, and promoting sustainable consumption and production patterns are also key components. By investing in sustainable cities and communities, we can create environments that enhance quality of life, promote social cohesion, and reduce the environmental impact of urbanization.

Responsible Consumption and Production:

The twelfth SDG, ‘Responsible Consumption and Production,’ calls for sustainable resource management, waste reduction, and sustainable lifestyles. The current patterns of consumption and production are placing immense pressure on natural resources, degrading the environment, and exacerbating social and economic inequalities. Transitioning towards circular economies, where resources are used efficiently, waste is minimized, and products are designed for longevity and recyclability, is crucial. Promoting sustainable production practices, raising awareness about responsible consumption, and encouraging sustainable business models are vital steps in achieving this goal. Individuals, businesses, and governments all play a role in driving the shift towards responsible consumption and production patterns.

Climate Action:

The thirteenth SDG, ‘Climate Action,’ underscores the urgency of combating climate change and its impacts. The Earth’s climate is changing at an alarming rate, leading to severe consequences for ecosystems and human well-being. The Paris Agreement, signed by numerous countries, aims to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius and pursue efforts to keep it below 1.5 degrees Celsius. Accelerating the transition to renewable energy sources, implementing adaptation measures to protect vulnerable communities, and promoting sustainable land use practices are critical for achieving climate targets. Additionally, efforts to raise awareness, enhance climate resilience, and mobilize financial resources for climate action are essential.

Life Below Water:

The fourteenth SDG focuses on the conservation and sustainable use of oceans, seas, and marine resources. Oceans are essential for biodiversity, food security, and the global climate system. However, marine ecosystems are under threat from pollution, overfishing, habitat destruction, and climate change impacts. Protecting and restoring marine ecosystems, reducing marine pollution, and implementing sustainable fisheries management practices are vital for preserving marine biodiversity and ensuring the sustainability of coastal communities. International collaboration and effective governance frameworks are essential for achieving this goal.

Life on Land:

The fifteenth SDG, ‘Life on Land,’ highlights the need to protect, restore, and sustainably manage terrestrial ecosystems. Deforestation, land degradation, desertification, and biodiversity loss remain critical challenges worldwide. Forests play a crucial role in carbon sequestration, climate regulation, and supporting biodiversity.

The seventeenth SDG, ‘Partnerships for the Goals,’ recognizes the importance of global collaboration and cooperation in achieving the SDGs. The challenges faced by the global community require collective action and the mobilization of resources, expertise, and knowledge. Governments, civil society, businesses, and international organizations must work together to foster partnerships, share best practices, and promote sustainable development practices. Multi-stakeholder partnerships, including public-private partnerships, can contribute to financing sustainable development initiatives, technology transfer, and capacity building.

The Agenda 2030 and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals provide a comprehensive framework for addressing the most pressing challenges of our time. These goals recognize the interconnected nature of social, economic, and environmental issues and provide a roadmap towards a sustainable and equitable future. While progress has been made in various areas, there is still much work to be done to achieve these ambitious goals by 2030. Governments, businesses, civil society, and individuals must actively engage and contribute to sustainable development efforts. By embracing the principles of the SDGs and forging partnerships, we can build a more sustainable, equitable, and prosperous future for all.
