From Waste to Energy, From Science to Celebration — RTIS Network Closes the 4th Transnational Meeting in Szczecin -🌍 ARTisGReen | Day 5

On the final day of the ARTisGReen 4th Transnational Meeting in Szczecin, the Greek delegation from RTIS Network and the 4th Lyceum of Alimos received their Erasmus+ participation certificates, concluding five days of workshops, visits, and European collaboration.

The fifth and final day of the 4th Transnational Meeting of the Erasmus+ ARTisGReen project brought the Greek delegation — RTIS Network και του 4th Lyceum of Alimos — to the frontiers of environmental technology and interactive science, before concluding with a celebration (a ceremony that celebrated five days of collaboration, creativity, and European friendship).

♻️ Morning Session | Eco Generator: Where Waste Becomes Power

The day commenced with a visit to the Eco Generator (Zakład Termicznego Unieszkodliwiania Odpadów), one of the most advanced thermal waste treatment and energy recovery facilities in Poland .

Located in the Szczecin port area, the facility processes approximately 176,000 tonnes of municipal waste annually, generating both electricity and heat for the city . During the 2025 operational year alone, the plant produced 81,500 MWh of electricity and over 720,000 GJ of heat, supplying power to approximately 30,000 households, public transport infrastructure, and municipal facilities .

Participants received a presentation and guided tour of the facility, learning how:

🔥 Waste is thermally treated through a process that meets Best Available Techniques (BAT) standards for emissions control
⚡ Steam from the combustion process powers a turbine-generator set, producing electricity for the grid
🔄 Flue gas treatment includes advanced systems for nitrogen oxide reduction, dust separation, and dioxin adsorption
🌱 The facility’s educational pathway demonstrates how waste-to-energy contributes to circular economy principles

For the Greek delegation, the visit offered a concrete model of how technology and environmental responsibility can coexist — a perspective particularly valuable for educators seeking to translate abstract sustainability concepts into tangible examples for their students.

🔬 Afternoon Session | Maritime Science Centre: Science Through the Lens of the Sea

The afternoon programme moved from industrial technology to interactive discovery at the Maritime Science Centre (Morskie Centrum Nauki im. prof. Jerzego Stelmacha), one of Szczecin’s most significant educational institutions.

Opened in May 2023, the centre is housed in a striking building designed to resemble a docked ship, situated on the Oder River. It features over 200 interactive exhibits exploring physics, astronomy, ecology, geography, and maritime technology through the unifying theme of the sea .

The Centre holds a LEED Gold certification — the first cultural institution in the region to achieve this standard — reflecting its commitment to environmental sustainability in both design and operation .

Participants explored:

🌊 Interactive exhibits on oceanography, navigation, and marine engineering
🧭 Hands-on stations demonstrating ship steering, harbour crane operation, and water dynamics
🐟 Baltic Sea ecosystems and the importance of marine conservation
🔬 Science communication as a tool for environmental awareness and public engagement

For a project that bridges Art and Science, the Maritime Science Centre offered a compelling demonstration of how curiosity, experimentation, and play can make complex scientific concepts accessible — a methodology directly transferable to the ARTisGReen partners’ own educational practices.

🏅 Evening Session | Project Wrap-Up & Certificate Ceremony

The mobility concluded with an official wrap-up session, where:

📋 Project outcomes were reviewed, including progress on the Green Plan — the partnership’s shared sustainability roadmap
💬 Participants shared reflections on their learning journey across the five days
🤝 Partners reaffirmed their commitment to the ARTisGReen mission
📜 Certificates of participation were presented to all students and teachers

For the Greek delegation, the ceremony marked the culmination of a week that had strengthened existing partnerships and deepened the bonds between students from six European countries.

📢 Teachers’ Meeting: Planning Erasmus Days Dissemination Events

During the final day, the trainers and teachers from all partner organisations held a dedicated meeting to discuss the dissemination of ARTisGReen outcomes within their home institutions and local communities.

A key focus of discussion was the possibility of organising dissemination events during Erasmus Days 2026, scheduled for 12–17 October 2026 . Erasmus Days represent Europe’s largest celebration of the Erasmus+ programme, providing a platform for past, present, and future participants to share experiences and showcase project results .

The teachers explored potential formats including:

📌 School-based exhibitions of ARTisGReen products (eco-jewellery, ceramics, upcycled objects)
📌 Presentations to local educational communities and stakeholders
📌 Interactive workshops demonstrating bioplastics, cyanotype, and linocut techniques
📌 Online exchanges with partner schools to share experiences

This initiative reflects ARTisGReen’s commitment to sustainability beyond the project timeline — ensuring that the knowledge, skills, and partnerships developed during the mobility continue to benefit students, teachers, and communities across Europe.

🎯 What the Greek Delegation Takes Home

✅ A deeper understanding of waste-to-energy technology and its role in circular economy systems
✅ New perspectives on interactive science communication from the Maritime Science Centre
✅ Strengthened skills in bioplastics, cyanotype, linocut, ceramics, and calligraphy
✅ Fresh ideas for inclusive teaching from dedicated teacher workshops
✅ A concrete plan for Erasmus Days 2026 dissemination in Greece
✅ Lifelong friendships with peers from Romania, Türkiye, Poland, Portugal, and Estonia
