📌 Introduction

The ARTisGReen Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership Project has officially resumed its transnational activities with the opening of the 4th Student Mobility, hosted by the Secondary School of Fine Arts in Szczecin (Liceum Plastyczne im. Constantina Brancusi) in Szczecin, Poland, from 28 September to 3 October 2026.

As one of the project’s key partners, RTIS Network is represented at this mobility by a delegation from the 4th Lyceum of Alimos, comprising students and teachers who will participate in all scheduled activities throughout the week.

The first day of the mobility, Monday, 28 September 2026, was dedicated to orientation, team formation, and introductory creative workshops. This report provides a detailed account of the day’s programme and its contribution to the project’s objectives.

🏙️ Morning Session: “Green City, Creative Minds” Scavenger Hunt

The day began at 09:00 with participants gathering at the Ibis Hotel, the designated accommodation for the delegations.

From 09:30 to 11:30, students and teachers took part in a city scavenger hunt titled “Green City, Creative Minds”. This activity was designed with multiple objectives in mind:

  • Orientation: Familiarising participants with the city of Szczecin, its geography, landmarks, and public spaces.
  • Team Building: Encouraging collaboration among students from different countries who had not previously worked together.
  • Environmental Awareness: Highlighting green spaces, sustainable infrastructure, and eco-friendly initiatives within the city.
  • Creative Thinking: Challenging participants to solve problems, interpret clues, and engage with the urban environment in innovative ways.

The scavenger hunt served as an informal but highly effective introduction to the host city and to the collaborative spirit that would define the rest of the mobility.

🏫 Midday Session: Welcome at the Host School

At 12:00, all participants convened at the Secondary School of Fine Arts in Szczecin for the official welcome event.

The programme included:

  • Welcoming remarks by representatives of the host school
  • Introduction to the school’s history, mission, and artistic specialisations
  • Guided tour of the school’s facilities, including workshops, studios, and exhibition spaces
  • Presentation of the mobility programme and practical information for the week ahead

Following the welcome and tour, students were assigned to their working groups. These groups were carefully formed to ensure a balanced representation of all six partner countries and to facilitate intercultural collaboration throughout the week’s workshops and activities.

A lunch break was held from 13:00 to 14:00, providing an opportunity for informal exchange among participants.

🎨 Afternoon Session: Youth Workshops – Bioplastics, Cyanotype, Linocut

From 14:00 to 16:00, students participated in the first series of creative workshops, delivered in two rotating groups. The workshops introduced three distinct techniques, each with a strong connection to sustainability and artistic innovation:

🌱 Bioplastics Workshop

Participants explored the production and application of bioplastics – biodegradable materials derived from renewable sources such as starch, cellulose, or algae. The workshop demonstrated how artistic practice can reduce reliance on conventional, petroleum-based plastics and contribute to a more sustainable future.

Learning outcomes:

  • Understanding the environmental impact of conventional plastics
  • Practical experience in creating bioplastic materials
  • Exploring artistic applications of biodegradable materials

🔵 Cyanotype Workshop

The cyanotype workshop introduced participants to a historic photographic printing process developed in the 19th century. Using light-sensitive chemistry and sunlight, students created distinctive blue-toned images on paper and fabric.

Learning outcomes:

  • Understanding the chemistry and history of cyanotype
  • Practical experience in preparing and exposing cyanotype prints
  • Exploring the intersection of traditional techniques and environmental consciousness

🖨️ Linocut Workshop

In the linocut workshop, students learned the traditional relief printing technique in which a design is carved into linoleum and then printed onto paper or fabric. This technique requires precision, patience, and creative planning.

Learning outcomes:

  • Mastering the fundamentals of linocut carving and printing
  • Understanding the role of traditional techniques in contemporary art
  • Developing skills in composition, negative space, and printmaking

🔄 Rotating Group Structure

The workshops were delivered in two rotating groups, ensuring that all participants had the opportunity to engage with each technique. This structure also promoted peer-to-peer learning and collaboration across nationalities, as students worked alongside peers from different countries in each session.

🎯 Contribution to ARTisGReen Objectives

The first day of the 4th mobility made a significant contribution to the project’s core objectives:

1. Integrating Sustainability into Arts Education

The workshops demonstrated practical ways in which sustainability can be embedded in traditional and digital artistic practices. By working with bioplastics, cyanotype, and linocut, students and teachers explored how environmental responsibility and artistic excellence can coexist.

2. Training Educators

The involvement of teachers in all activities – and the dedicated teacher workshop scheduled later in the week – reflects the project’s commitment to training educators in incorporating sustainability into their teaching practice.

3. Strengthening European Cooperation

The formation of mixed working groups and the collaborative nature of the scavenger hunt and workshops reinforced the intercultural and cooperative dimensions of the ARTisGReen project.

4. Advancing the Green Plan

The techniques and materials explored on Day 1 feed directly into the Green Plan – the project’s shared sustainability roadmap – by providing concrete examples of eco-friendly practices that can be adopted by partner organisations.
